Hey, Minnesota restaurateurs!
Opening a restaurant isn't just about good food and drinks—it's about creating an experience. And in today's digital world, that experience starts with your photos. Whether you're preparing for a grand opening or looking to refresh your online presence, there are some must-have images to showcase your restaurant at its finest.
Today, I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes insights from my recent project with Silver Fern, a new café by day and vibrant wine bar by night. They opened their doors in November 2023, and I had the creative pleasure of capturing photos and videos to help kickstart their web and business launch.
I also want to give a huge shoutout to The Luxury Shrink for the fabulous styling and behind-the-scenes work by Ethan Hunt Photography. (Our shoot within a shoot was awesome!)
Whether you're a budding restaurateur or a seasoned pro, having a captivating visual presence is key to attracting guests and keeping them coming back for more. Let's dive into some must-have photos to launch your restaurant with a bang!
12 Must-Have Restaurant Photos
1. Delivery Service App Photos
First and foremost, let's talk about those crucial delivery app images. With the popularity of food delivery services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates, these apps are the lifeline of many restaurants, especially in today's convenience-driven world. Crisp, appetizing photos on a white background are non-negotiable. They ensure your dishes look as irresistible online as they taste in person. Silver Fern’s mouthwatering dishes popped deliciously against the white backdrop, making it hard to resist placing an order.
2. Interior Photography
The ambiance of your restaurant plays a significant role in attracting diners. Silver Fern put a lot of effort into their interior design, and it shows. Capturing the cozy, inviting atmosphere of their cafe and the chic, sophisticated vibe of their wine bar was essential. These photos are perfect for showcasing the unique charm of your space on your website, social media, and print materials.
3. Customer & Staff Lifestyle Imagery
People love seeing real-life moments in action. Lifestyle images of customers enjoying their meals, staff members preparing dishes, or bartenders crafting cocktails add a personal touch to your visual content. These candid shots can be used on your website, social media, emails, and print materials to create a connection with your audience. For Silver Fern, we captured some cozy moments that reflected the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the place.
4. Video Content
A picture is worth a thousand words, but a video can tell a rich story. We created a short highlight film for Silver Fern showcasing the best of their cafe and wine bar offerings. This dynamic content is perfect for social media, ads, and more. Video content is exceptionally engaging and can give potential customers a taste of what to expect, making them more likely to visit.
5. Banner Photo
Your restaurant's banner photo is often the first visual impression potential customers will see. This image should encapsulate the vibe of your restaurant in one shot. Make sure it’s eye-catching and representative of your brand. For Silver Fern, we captured a stunning image that combined elements of their rustic cafe and sophisticated wine bar, giving a holistic view of what they offer and highlighting the transition from cozy daytime cafe to elegant nighttime wine bar.
6. Organic Social Media Images
Organic social media content is all about authenticity. Share behind-the-scenes shots, daily specials, and candid moments to keep your audience engaged. These images should be varied and reflect your restaurant's day-to-day operations and special events. Silver Fern’s diverse content keeps their followers eagerly anticipating their next visit. These lifestyle images are perfect for Instagram, Facebook, and beyond.
7. Online Paid Ads and Other Advertising Outlets
For paid ads, you need high-quality, eye-catching images that stop the scroll. Consider close-ups of your signature dishes, happy customers, or even behind-the-scenes shots of your chefs at work. These images should be versatile and adaptable for various advertising platforms, from Google Ads to local food blogs.
8. Website Photography
Your website is your online storefront, so it needs to be visually appealing and user-friendly. Feature a mix of interior shots, menu items, and lifestyle images to give visitors a comprehensive view of your restaurant. Silver Fern’s website now beautifully showcases their dual personality as a cozy cafe and an elegant wine bar.
9. Versatile Content Library
Having a versatile content library is a game-changer and time-saver. A media library is a diverse collection of high-quality, branded images and videos that can be used across various platforms and for different purposes. This library ensures you always have the perfect image at your fingertips, whether you're updating your website, planning a social media post, or designing a new menu.
10. Evergreen Content
Evergreen content is timeless and always relevant. Think of classic, beautifully plated dishes, the charm of your restaurant's design, and warm, welcoming staff interactions. These images remain useful no matter the season or trend, supporting your brand consistently over time.
11. Menu and Menu Board Photos
High-quality photos of your menu items are essential. They enhance your physical menus and menu boards and create a visual feast for your online viewers. Clear, appetizing images help customers decide what to order before they even arrive.
12. Restaurant Window & Wall Photos
Last but not least, don't forget about your restaurant's windows and walls. Large spaces are prime spots for display photos that draw people in. Whether it’s an artistic shot of your signature dish, a close-up of your unique decor, or a vibrant image of your bustling kitchen, these photos can make passersby pause and step inside.
connecting with Community & Customers
I'm excited to see how these images will help Silver Fern connect with their community and attract new customers. Strategically styled photos can make all the difference in how your restaurant is perceived online and offline. Invest in capturing the essence of your culinary brand, and watch as your visual story brings in your target foodies.
Cheers!
